Surgical Technologist Educator

Responsibilities
Collaborate with other members of the perioperative education team and leadership for various educational initiatives
Work as a resource person for caregivers by providing current information, based on current literature, and disseminating current research which provides an environment for innovative changes in perioperative systems
Assist Perioperative Educators with the clinical education of registered nurses
Design, direct, implement, and evaluate educational offerings based on the knowledge, skills, and learning levels of caregivers
Collaborate with nursing managers to plan and implement orientation for new hires
Identify the learning needs and goals of caregivers
Assist in interviewing new caregivers
Develop and utilize appropriate evaluations to determine the effectiveness of educational activities
Assist in the development of department-specific orientation and competencies
Coordinate continuing education, training programs, and caregiver development
Consult with individuals within the Nursing Institute, Surgical Operations, Infection Prevention, Cleveland Clinic, and the community regarding professional practices and caregiver roles
Lead enterprise initiatives related to process improvement and problem resolution
Collaborate with nursing management to identify clinical activities which facilitate professional growth of surgical technology caregivers and scrub nurses
Serve as a resource person for identified perioperative projects
Participate in and lead work teams related to process improvement or problem resolution
Advocate for caregiver training components of new strategic initiatives pertinent to the clinical area
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, communications, healthcare administration or a related field
Two years of related experience
An associate's degree and four years of related experience may substitute the bachelor's degree requirement
Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the Association of Surgical Technologists
Computer and software skills
Ability to travel to various Cleveland Clinic locations and flexibility with hours worked
Preferred
Preceptor (training) or lead technician experience
