Controls Engineering Intern
Barry-Wehmiller is a diversified global supplier of engineering consulting and manufacturing technology for the packaging, corrugating, sheeting and paper-converting industries. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Controls Engineering Intern for Summer 2026, providing the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in automation, electrical design, and controls integration within a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities
Assist in the design, development, and testing of control systems for paper converting machinery
Collaborate with senior controls engineers to create and modify control logic, HMI/SCADA interfaces, and PLC programming
Participate in the documentation of control system designs, specifications, and user manuals
Support troubleshooting and debugging efforts to identify and resolve control system issues in a timely manner
Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful integration of control systems with mechanical, electrical, and software components
Assist in commissioning and startup activities, ensuring proper functionality and performance of control systems
Participate in design reviews and contribute innovative ideas to improve the overall performance and efficiency of control systems
Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in controls engineering
Qualification
Required
2+ years of college coursework completed in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment
Preferred
Basic knowledge of PLC programming and control systems is preferred
