Cochise County is seeking a Health Educator II for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. The role involves providing nutrition education and counseling, conducting health screenings, and developing educational materials to support public health initiatives.

Responsibilities

Uses established guidelines to evaluate and determine eligibility for public health/nutrition programs; conducts health screenings and evaluates results; develops, selects, and revises educational materials; develops and implements educational plans; provides preventive health education; evaluates individuals, families and/or groups for other health, economic and social needs; maintains referral and outreach network; conducts marketing and outreach to increase services; provides referral of client families/groups to other social programs; ensures accurate documentation and recordkeeping
Provide participant-centered nutrition education and nutrition counseling for individuals and/or groups according to age, category, health risks, and family needs
Assigns and tailors appropriate food packages for eligible participants based on age, category, health risks, and family needs
Issues food benefits for eligible WIC participants
Promotes breastfeeding and breastfeeding support activities
Plans and implements community outreach activities

Required

Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in health care, medical care, early childhood, special education, elementary education, secondary education, social work, nutrition, or closely related field PLUS one (1) year of related experience OR three (3) years of related experience including health care, medical care, early childhood, special education, elementary education, secondary education, social work, nutrition
Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and the ability to be covered by county insurance
Working knowledge of fundamental theories, concepts and methods of health education
Working knowledge of teaching and counseling methods applicable to health education
Working knowledge of public health programs, functions, and services
Working knowledge of prevention/control methods of communicable diseases
Working knowledge of basic health care practices and collection of health information
Working knowledge of the organization of health and nutrition services and referral resources
Working knowledge of the principles of adult learning and teaching skills
Working knowledge of dynamics of social interaction and behavior
Working skill in gathering & evaluating data
Working skill in implementing health education programs
Working skill in interpreting and following policies and procedures
Working skill in eliciting information through interviews and collecting client information
Working skill in training and counseling techniques
Working skill in office practices and procedures to include the use of computer programs
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public
Ability to follow the policy and procedure manual for the program
Ability to prepare and maintain records, charts and reports
Ability to apply pertinent rules and regulations required to conduct eligibility tasks
Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
Ability to read, write and speak English
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to work well with people of varied socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
