Before Care Youth Development Professional (YDP) - Mishawaka Sites
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northern Indiana Corridor serves over 3,000 children across northern Indiana and focuses on social and emotional learning. The Before Care Youth Development Professional is responsible for ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for youth before school, engaging them in positive interactions and activities.

Responsibilities
Arrive ready to open the before-care space and prepare for member arrival (6:30 a.m. start at most sites)
Supervise youth (typically elementary age) as they enter the site, check-in, and move through the before-care period until school begins
Ensure the environment is safe, clean, and orderly (perform basic tidying, monitor spaces, set up/put away materials)
Engage youth in casual, age-appropriate activities (board games, reading corner, free play, simple group interaction) that allow them to settle in for the day
Maintain positive youth relationships — foster a sense of belonging, encourage good behavior, model respectful interactions
Monitor and enforce behavior expectations and site policies — intervene if needed, escalate issues to Site Coordinator or Club Director
Track attendance, check in/out with school transition, communicate with school or club leadership as required
Assist with the transition to breakfast (lining up, escorting, etc.)
Be a consistent, reliable presence — maintain punctuality, dependability, and professional demeanor
Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and club/organization initiatives as needed
Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator to support the before-care program

Qualification
Required
Minimum High School graduate or equivalent
Experience working with youth, including recreation, coaching, training, tutoring, or teaching
Knowledge of physical, social recreational games, coaching or tutoring methods
Ability and willingness to consistently engage youth in all activities
Knowledge of basic Microsoft office, web- and non-web based computer applications
Must be physically and mentally able to perform essential functions
Possess sufficient physical strength and energies required to effectively engage in activities with children
Ability to move, walk, run, bend, reach, stoop in the delivery of member care
Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull up to 20 lbs
Ability to frequently handle gross and fine manipulations such as grasping, twisting of small objects
Ability to handle hazardous/infectious waste
Ability to work where chemicals are used for cleaning
Ability to work where mechanical and electrical hazards, and where environmental dust, mist, steam are occasionally present
Ability to operate a vehicle in a safe manner
Ability to accurately read and complete documentation
Ability to assist children in written/other activities
Ability to work in a rapid paced environment where noise and stress levels may be high
Ability to interface professionally with a diverse group of persons
Preferred
Some post-secondary education
CPR certification
