San Joaquin County Office of Education is a regional agency that provides educational leadership and resources. The Corpsmember Forestry Technician will support the Greater Valley Conservation Corps by mentoring other Corpsmembers and implementing various outdoor projects related to natural resource management.

Responsibilities

Working in outdoor habitat restoration projects, landscape sites and many other outdoor and indoor natural resource environments
Fuel loads project, invasive species removal, fire breaks, seed collection, etc
Seeding and tree planning
Tree mortality and tree felling
Cone and seed collection
Tree nursery and arborist training
Wildlands forest firefighting training
Habitat restoration projects will include; staking trees, discing, and removal of evasive species

Required

Must be enrolled in the Columbia College program
Must complete 500 hours of on-the-job training (OJT)
Have positive evaluations with Greater Valley Conservation Corps
In good standing with Columbia College

United States citizen or proof of your legal right to live and work in this country
Between the ages of 18 and 25
Interest in conservation issues, recycling, waste reduction, and natural resource projects
Interest in affecting change through community service
Enthusiastic about developing new skills
Excellent communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to work well with diverse groups of people
A one-year commitment to participation in an education and job-training program
Interest in career development and participation in field-study program
