Responsibilities

Performs all the job duties of a less complex nature of a Service Technician II to include inspecting and testing appliances, equipment and associated systems on customers premises and fixing the problem. Uses human senses, leak-detecting solution, and gas detection or measurement equipment such as leak detector, manometer, pressure gauge to detect problem and to verify that the problem has been corrected
Locks, unlocks, reads, changes, and removes meters; initiates plugged service. Deliveries cylinders as directed. Investigates high bill complaints and completes service orders as to work performed. Collects money on C.O.D. orders and plug meter orders; properly accounts for revenues collected and delivers money to designated employee
Functions as a first responder in gas-related situations such as fires, leaks, broken pipes, explosion. Performs necessary emergency repairs and applies stopper when necessary. Stands-by at the site, when necessary, until properly relieved by appropriate personnel
Provides and extends at all times a courteous and tactful demeanor when dealing with all customers or the public. Advises or instructs consumer in the proper and efficient operation of their appliances/equipment
Drives service truck and maintains necessary truck supplies and equipment
Performs clerical/administrative duties such as preparing reports, inputting data into the computer, etc
Works in a safe and responsible manner. Complies with and where required enforces all safety rules, regulations and practices in effect and established/adopted by the Company. Cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety, safe work habits, and good housekeeping to include the reporting and rectifying, as qualified, any unsafe conditions or act. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis
Performs as Tank Truck Driver, Installer 1/C, Tanker Driver, Cylinder Driver or Meter Reader as required; receives appropriate higher grade in accordance with the C.B.A
Performs related and other work as required and/or directed
Performs all other related duties as instructed by supervisor/manager

Required

Preferably a high school graduate with technical schooling
Completed all required Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal/State, OSHA Federal/State and NFPA courses or programs
Must maintain at least minimum passing scores per regulations, for all recurring Federal/State and NFPA courses or programs
Must possess a valid Class B, CDL license with Hazardous Material endorsement, with no restrictions on air brakes or transmission type, and valid Medical Examiner's Certificate per 49 CFR 391.41 through 391.49 and appropriate clearance certificate such as TWIC
Satisfactory completion of in-house Service Technician Training and Field Evaluation; must pass continuing refresher courses
Approximately 18 months gas service work experience, not less than one year of which must have been in the repair and servicing of gas equipment/appliances/controls
Must have demonstrated ability to effectively perform the work requirements and to deal tactfully and courteously with customers
Must be a safe and competent driver, cognizant of all traffic laws and have a clean traffic abstract
Possesses working knowledge of departmental operating rules and procedures, pertinent codes (such as NFPA #58 and #59) regulations, standards and safety rules/regulations/practices in addition to standard practices and procedures for this trade
Proficient in the proper use of the tools, materials, and equipment of the trade and have a good safety record; ability to use computer

No back or serious eye limitation including color blindness or restriction on respirator use; must have a keen sense of smell
Must not have claustrophobia
Work involves moderate to heavy degree of physical effort, e.g. to move ranges, refrigerators, etc
