Facilities Process Engineer III

Panasonic Energy Corporation of North America is expanding to De Soto, Kansas, building the world’s largest lithium-ion battery factory. The Facilities Process Engineer III will support equipment installation, commissioning, and production operations while ensuring the reliable operation of advanced recycling and recovery systems, optimizing performance, and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

Act as subject matter expert for assigned process systems, supporting design reviews, approvals, and daily operations
Maintain and troubleshoot advanced recycling, solvent recovery, and electrolyte systems to ensure continuous and reliable operation
Monitor chemical usage, manage vendor relations, and seek cost reduction opportunities for process inputs
Support predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance efforts while minimizing production disruption
Assist with O&M documentation, spare parts management, and root cause troubleshooting for system performance issues
Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and EHS requirements, including hazardous waste collection and safety procedures
Oversee RO/DI water supply, corrosion control, scaling reduction, and system performance monitoring for long-term efficiency
Contribute to facility design expansion projects, controls implementation, and sensor/device placement to align with standards
Build cross-functional partnerships with engineers, vendors, and operations teams to share best practices and improve system reliability
Mentor junior facilities staff in processes, systems, and safety while maintaining readiness for emergencies

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or related engineering field
5+ years of relevant engineering / process / chemical / experience in Facilities Engineering work, refinery/pharma/biotech/food process operations
Experience with SCADA type monitoring interfaces, extracting, and analyzing data
Skills and experience necessary to satisfy the required 'Essential Duties'
Knowledge of and comfort with Microsoft Office Suite software including Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Strong technical leadership with excellent organizational and verbal skills
Being approachable. Must be comfortable communicating/troubleshooting with all levels of the organization
Ability and proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and presenting technical information to non-technical audiences
The ability to respond effectively, verbally, and in writing to sensitive issues, complex inquiries, or complaints
Excellent interpersonal skills including patience in overcoming communication challenges while resolving technical issues with team members who may have different cultural and lingual backgrounds
Strong team building skills and willing to learn from and accept guidance from others
Able to manage multiple concurrent tasks in a fast-paced environment, effectively prioritize work, and deliver quality results

Preferred

Prior experience working as a Process or Chemical Engineer at a manufacturing facility, refinery or chemical plant
Experience supporting or reviewing the installation of MEP equipment on construction projects, especially within manufacturing environments
Experience with Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
Experience with managing multi-discipline projects
Experience with developing standard operating procedures (SOP)
Experience working with systems that serve clean room/dry room environments
Basic understanding of control Proportional Integrative Derivative (PID) loop tuning
