NEOGOV is seeking a Title III Success Coach for West Virginia Northern Community College. This role focuses on engaging and supporting students through a holistic approach to educational planning and proactive referrals, while collaborating with various departments and resources to enhance student success.

Responsibilities

Coaching students, including • Build rapport and trust with students, faculty, and staff to support successful goal completion. • Assist students with setting goals and identifying, planning for, and overcoming potential obstacles. • Guide students to define steps in education pathways and career planning process and completion. • Monitors student progress toward goals. • Help students recognize and problem solve issues that arise related to progress towards academic goals, persistence, and attendance. • Connect students to existing departments and community resources. • Planning and implementing student pathway after graduation; may include assistance with resume writing, career exploration, interview skills, and connecting students with job fairs internally or in the community as needed
Promptly act on information from faculty, staff, and predictive analytics regarding student academic concerns. • Empowers students to problem solve issues that arise related to progress towards academic goals, persistence, and attendance. • Utilizes motivational interviewing and other coaching methods to encourage student to modify or adopt behaviors that in result in academic and professional success. • Facilitate communication and interactions that connects students to appropriate College faculty and staff
Student Admission, Registration, and Orientation process: • Follows up with students after application and acceptance process to assist with enrollment process. • Provides tours and other support as needed during open houses, orientations, and other on-campus and virtual registration events. • Facilitates conversations between student, advisor, internal, and external supports. • Serves as knowledge base of college programs and services to connect students with appropriate personnel. • Makes proactive contact with students who have missing and/or incomplete information for registration processes
Reporting: • Maintain clearly written comprehensive notes and data on students in electronic files. • Monitor individual and aggregate data numbers and track outcomes of interventions. • Serve as a liaison with faculty, staff, and other entities to facilitate the connection with at-risk students. • Attend regular meetings for Title III, ACTion Center, ASC, and ongoing professional development. • Monthly reporting of time and effort submitted to Title III Project Director

Required

Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Human Services, or a related field
A combination of education, experience, and training may be accepted
3 year + providing Direct Services to students/clients in a holistic case management model incorporating referrals and follow up
1 year + Higher Education experience
Experience following FERPA and student confidentiality
Experience or training in accommodation of student disabilities under ADA, Mental Health First Aid, or Appreciative Advising
Effective interpersonal skills
Strong verbal communication and listening skills
Demonstrated written communication skills
Demonstrated customer service skills
Quickly troubleshoots and resolves problems
Understands boundaries between academic and mental health concerns
Monitoring and following up with students, faculty, and staff

Preferred

Providing Direct Services to students/clients in a holistic case management model incorporating referrals and follow up
Higher Education experience
