Omega Transitional Care Technician

The Omega Transitional Care Technician plays a vital role in supporting patients, clients, and clinicians within NC State’s End of Life Care Service, providing compassionate technical support for in-hospital and in-home consultations, including patient assessments, treatments, and client education.

Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, animal handling, and patient assessments
Provide quality of life evaluations and patient progress updates for in-hospital and in-home consultations
Educate and support clients in pain management, mobility, rehabilitation, nutrition, and end-of-life decision-making
Maintain accurate medical records and ensure clear communication with other hospital departments and ancillary services
Support teaching efforts for fourth-year veterinary students, interns, and residents on palliative and hospice care techniques
Maintain compliance with hospital safety, infection control, and operational standards
Performs other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the NC State Veterinary Hospital
Qualification
Required
Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience
Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of NC or qualified to sit for the NC State exam
NC Driver's License is required and must be maintained as a condition of employment
Ability to lift 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, emotionally sensitive environment while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and client service
Preferred
Previous veterinary technician experience in a clinical setting
Demonstrated experience in small animal clinical practice, with emphasis on palliative or end-of-life care
Proficiency in technical procedures including venipuncture, medication and sedation administration, drug calculations, and low-stress animal handling
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to provide empathetic client support
Certifications such as Fear Free, Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy (CAETA), or Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Professional (CPEP) are strongly preferred
