ST Peer Writing Tutor - Douglas

Cochise College is seeking a Peer Writing Tutor to support students in understanding and applying course concepts. The role involves tutoring students individually and in groups, providing feedback on writing assignments, and helping students develop study strategies.

Responsibilities

Tutors and facilitates one-on-one sessions, group sessions, and workshops either online or face to face
Offers critical feedback on writing assignments
Answers grammar, usage, punctuation, and reading questions as well as questions on MLA
Offers students writing strategies for essays and research papers
Helps student develop a variety of study strategies
Helps students clarify assignments and other material
Participates in workshops and orientations
Attends training sessions held for student staff
Collaborates with tutoring center staff
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Required

Enrollment at Cochise College with a minimum of 6 credits per semester and 3 credits in the summer
Possess and maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or higher
Completion of ENG 101 and 102 with a grade of 'B' or better
Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
Knowledge of current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications
Knowledge of the proper operation of and the ability to use personal computers and standard office equipment
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner
Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public
Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
Ability to work accurately, efficiently, and effectively with all types of data
Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes

Preferred

Completion of an upper level intensive writing course with a 'B' or better
