Accounting Technician I or II (Accounts Payable)
The City of Plano is looking for an Accounting Technician I or II to join their Accounts Payable team. In this role, you will maintain accurate vendor and customer account information while assisting in processing revenues, expenditures, and journal entries, ensuring compliance with financial policies.

Responsibilities
Maintains a computer database to provide accurate information on customer and vendor accounts
Routes a variety of financial paperwork, including invoices, check requests, payments, forms, and statements
Prepares and maintains a variety of files and records in assigned area of responsibility to appropriate departments
Reviews financial documents for accuracy and completeness by ensuring proper signatures, general ledger coding, dates and other related information
Researches and responds to inquiries by customers and vendors concerning payments received, paid, costs encumbered, and other information
Researches and analyzes departmental accounts and responds to inquiries by City-user departments concerning application of funds received, payments made to vendors and encumbered funds
Researches and provides citizen information under the Open Records Act concerning checks issued to vendors
Processes weekly payments accurately and timely and ensuring all payments are in accordance with purchasing policies and procedures
Reviews invoices, check requests, expense reports, purchase orders, and vendor/employee payments and statements for accuracy and completeness by ensuring proper signatures, dates codes, and other related information prior to data entry
Assists in processing and recording information related to revenues, receipts, purchases, expenditures, billings, journal entries, and accounts payable for the department
Reviews invoices, cash reports, customer payments and statements for accuracy and completeness by ensuring proper signatures, dates codes, and other related information
Prepares the daily deposit and works with departments in order to balance and reconcile cash to meet strict deadlines; maintains petty cash
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Six (6) months of experience involving extensive accounts receivable and accounts payable duties
Knowledge of basic accounting principles relative to the coding of payments; accounts payable and data entry procedures; City procedures and State laws governing the processing of vendor invoices
Skill in making simple arithmetic calculations and proficiency in the use of computer equipment and 10-key adding machine; communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; operating standard office software applications including spreadsheets, word processing, and electronic mail
Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential
Preferred

High school graduate or GED, plus a minimum of six semester hours of college-level accounting
Two (2) years of experience involving extensive accounts receivable, payable and general accounting duties
Knowledge of accounting principles relative to the coding of payments and account distribution; accounts receivable, accounts payable, and data entry procedures; City procedures; Federal and State laws governing processing and reporting of relevant information
Skill in making complex arithmetic calculations; operating a computer equipment and a 10-key adding machine; communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; resolving invoice discrepancies; responding to government agencies, citizens, vendors, and employee inquiries; utilizing accounting software and standard office software including spreadsheet, word processing, and electronic mail
