Technical Writer I

Responsibilities

Provides daily technical support to the Management team
Assists in the development of written procedures for Safety, Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical Trades work and tasks
Assists in development of safety, quality control and inspection procedures for inclusion in test and inspection plans for production Work-Packages
Assists to define test standards, and specifies test equipment associated with requirements established in test and inspection plans and / or TWDs
Works with customer QA/Safety representatives to establish inspection and acceptance criteria
Reviews QA/Safety control requirements with customer representative to assure compliance with requirements
Reviews contractually required quality/safety documentation for accuracy and completeness for project/job/contract completion
Responsibilities include review of Technical Work Documents and Condition Reports, including Supporting Documentation, written to perform work within Surface Ship, Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE), Deep Submergence System (DSS) and/or LEVEL 1 boundaries to ensure production efforts are in compliance with NAVSEA requirements and specifications
Recommend and assist to implement changes to Technical Work Documents and Internal Processes Instructions to ensure requirements are communicated to users in a simple, straightforward manner to enhance the probability of first time success
Review and assist to resolve SUBSAFE, DSS/SOC and LEVEL 1 issues
Assist the Quality Director, Production Manager and Programs Manager on issues to ensure internal and external customer needs are met to ensure schedule and department efficiency requirements to support overall budget goals

Required

Bachelors Degree in Engineering and with 1 year waterfront Quality/Engineering Technical Writing or Shipboard System Testing experience on Navy Surface Ship, Level I Systems, or Submarine systems
Bachelor's Degree may be substituted with 4 years military Navy service or completed Maritime Trade School / Apprenticeship with 3 years waterfront Quality/Engineering Technical Writing or Shipboard System Testing experience on Navy Surface Ship, Level I Systems, or Submarine systems
Completed Maritime Trade School / Apprenticeship or 4 years military Navy service may be substituted with 6 years waterfront Quality/Engineering Technical Writing or Shipboard System Testing experience on Navy Surface Ship, Level I Systems, or Submarine systems
Base Access: Must be able to obtain and maintain access to U.S Military bases and shipyards for performance of job duties
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
Job Training: Technical Engineering, Non-SUBSAFE, SUBSAFE, Scope of Certification and NAVSEA Standards for shipboard work
Abroad knowledge in shipyard, marine, and commercial technical work practices, inspection and testing methods
A broad knowledge of Navy ship repair processes and procedures
A broad knowledge and comprehensive understanding of OSHA Regulations for Shipyard Employment, NAVSEA Standard Items, Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM), NAVSHIPS Tech Manuals (NSTM), and DOD Standards, Military Specifications, Performance Standards, Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE) Requirements Manual, System Certification Procedures, Criteria Manual for Deep Submergence Systems (DSS/SOC), DDGOS, Level 1, T9074-AD-GIB-010-1688, MIL-STD-1689 requirements and other customer related specifications and standards coupled with the ability to provide simple, straightforward requirements to enhance the probability and efficiency in any process and to communicate these requirements to a broad spectrum of personnel both within and outside of the company
