The role involves troubleshooting electronic components, reading and recording water meter consumption, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

Responsibilities
Repair minor leaks inside water meter boxes by replacing damaged parts
Troubleshoot electronic components for automated meter reading systems and replace damaged parts as necessary
Read and record consumption of residential and commercial water meters, verifying that readings are within parameters
Troubleshoot issues related to meters and reading equipment
Perform routine turn on/turn off water meter for new service, terminations, cut-off for non-payment, and reconnections
Accurately document work is performed, and materials used in service orders and work logs
Remove or lock meters for consumption on inactive accounts
Operate a City vehicle in compliance with traffic laws; conduct routine vehicle inspections and wear seatbelts at all times
Use and maintain assigned tools, mobile devices, and other related equipment
Work outdoors in various weather conditions and maintain accessibility to meter pits
Provide input on efficiency improvements within the unit's service operations
Represent the City at public events, community meetings, or training sessions
Assist other City departments as needed for special projects
Qualification
Required
High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
Valid Texas Drivers license
Knowledge of City streets, minor plumbing and electronics, and meter equipment
Knowledge of water meters (parts and equipment); water pressures, and meter valves
Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation
Skill in interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
Skill in operating hand tools and driving a truck
Skill in performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios
Ability to troubleshoot water meter problems effectively and efficiently
Ability to work effectively with the public
Ability to work independently outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to meet schedules and deadlines of the work
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
Ability to accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
