Student Life Coordinator

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is an innovative institution committed to student success, and they are seeking a Student Life Coordinator to enhance the student experience. The coordinator will be responsible for managing events, advising student organizations, and promoting student engagement across multiple campuses.

Responsibilities

Serves as the advisor to assigned Campus Association (CA), while utilizing all college wide technological advances
Collaborates with the Campus Association Vice President (VP’s) for planning, development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of a diverse series of campus activities contributing to a comprehensive and diverse series of student services that focus on learning, leadership, cultural competence, social and recreation
Trains the CA to successfully function within the college community; including but not limited to college and CA policies and procedures, along with training the CA on their job duties and responsibilities, and evaluations of the CA and Performance Award distribution
Assures a student learning approach to campus activity and service programming that effectively meets the social, cultural, recreational, and educational needs of the campus and the community
Develops and administers a student activities survey to assess the needs and interests of nontraditional and evening students
Establishes and supports a positive and collaborative working relationship between the campus association and community agencies to promote student outreach
Provides primary staff supervision for most day and evening activities sponsored by the CA and accompanies students to major CA-related conferences and workshops (occasionally on the weekends)
Guides the Campus Association in strategic planning, goal setting, and execution of initiatives that align with the college’s mission, student development outcomes
Evaluates the effectiveness of campus events and initiatives through feedback collection and assessment tools, using data to inform future planning and enhance student engagement efforts
Facilitate and streamline access to essential campus resources and services for a diverse student population, ensuring equity and inclusivity in student support
Manage and monitor the Campus Association budgets
Develops, manages, and assesses the effectiveness of the SGA training program to include topics such as: Robert’s Rules of Order, goal setting, leadership development, conflict resolution, team building, and transition planning
Advise and support SGA members on their roles and responsibilities to promote effective governance and personal growth
Supervise Student Government Association (SGA) meetings by managing agenda creation and sending meeting invitations to members
Develop strategies to increase student participation and representation in SGA governance
Coordinates and oversees the SGA Officer Elections and Election Committee. Updates the Election Packet and investigates all unethical behavior by candidates
Leads coordination and attendance of the Board of Trustees Student Presentation, SGA Summer/Winter Retreats, and Student Leadership Training
Serve as advisor to the Goals and Governance Board
Monitor and report SGA goals progress and outcomes regularly to measure progress and provide feedback to stakeholders, including college leadership
Organize SGA community service projects and outreach initiatives to strengthen campus-community relations and student civic engagement
Encourage and facilitate communication between the SGA and the student body to foster transparency, engagement, and collaboration across campuses
Serve as advisor to the SGA Executive Board, which meets regularly, to address any issues or concerns brought forward by students
Serves as the technology lead for Student Life/SGA/CA/student clubs and organizations web pages, CSM APP, MY Learning Community, Student Activities Calendar, social media, etc. This includes but is not limited to design, training, monitoring, editing, ensuring accuracy of content, and is apprised of all technological advances
Ensures the CSM's STL/SGA web pages and CSM App guidelines and policies are followed and implemented in a timely manner. Coordinates with the CSM Web Services Team when new services or page(s) need to be implemented and integrated
Adheres to CSM web page policies, procedures, and standards. Ensures compliance with Copyright Laws when provided materials from another source and credit sources appropriately. Ensures compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements with assistance from the Web Services Team
Communicates, promotes, and provides guidance to the college community on how to form new clubs/organizations, and how to renew previous clubs/organizations
Reviews club processes and procedures annually to ensure equity and accessibility for all students
Provides advisor and student leader training for all clubs and organizations annually to ensure knowledge of compliance with all college policies and procedures
Review and update all training documents annually to ensure they are current
Serves as the liaison between SGA governing body and clubs for registration, recognition, and all budget requests
Serves as advisor to the Budget Board which meets regularly and provides guidance and direction on all budget requests from clubs and organizations
Monitors student clubs/organizations' budgets and processes all necessary paperwork
Coordinates all club purchases, scheduling pick up and return of items from events and manages inventory of club items
Facilitates and coordinates all student club/organization travel (required paperwork, transportation, hotel, registration, meals, etc.)
Facilitates communication between the Budget Board and the leadership of clubs and organizations
Assists students board members in addressing and resolving conflicts constructively, promoting healthy group dynamics
Serves as the advocate for clubs during Budget Board meetings, sharing clarifying information on requests for the board
Encourages clubs/organization participation in appropriate activities/competitions/events
Provide leadership, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of all SGA/CA college-wide initiatives in collaboration with students, faculty, and staff to enhance support programs, boost engagement, and promote an inclusive campus environment
Serve as advisor to the College Activities Board by providing strategic guidance on college-wide programming, events and activities, facilitating meetings, and discussing event feedback, ideas, and ways to enhance the overall student experience
Plan, supervise, and evaluate SGA/CA sponsored student trips, ensuring these experiences support students’ educational, cultural, or leadership development goals
Build and maintain strong partnerships with campus departments, student organizations, and external community groups to foster collaboration and expand programming opportunities
Research and negotiate contracts with external vendors and agencies to secure services for student programming
Procurement of supplies and materials, ensuring compliance with college policies
Collect and analyze event feedback and attendance data to assess the impact and effectiveness of student life programs and initiatives
Use data insights to refine programming and align initiatives with student interests and institutional goals
Collaborate with Marketing to manage the event calendar and contribute to *HawkTalk* for effective campus-wide event communication
Manage and monitor the budget for college wide events and programs
Acts as advisor to the College Activities Board, Goals and Governance Board, and Budget Board, while utilizing all college-wide technological advances
Assists the Dean of Student Development with developing 6 annual budgets for SGA/CA
Plans, monitors, and reports all budget transactions ensuring compliance with college policies
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Student Life Office, which include answering phones, greeting guests, answering questions, and assisting with all office functions and other duties as assigned
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Student Lounge, including check out and return of equipment, verification of enrolled student status, and maintenance of the student lounge space
Responsible for the hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating part-time temporary and student staff
Provides safety and security educational information to students and initiates new programs to meet the needs of students regarding current health/safety issues
Manages department and organization rentals through the Student Life Office JotForm
Inform supervisor of professional and program successes, challenges, and concerns through weekly written reports and one-on-one meetings
Acts as a consultant to the Alumni Association and other campus offices for event planning and promotion
Meets regularly with internal college departments to discuss and coordinate collaborative efforts
Assists with the coordination of spring graduation ceremonies
Performs other related duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree required in related field
Two years of experience in the student services area with progressively increased responsibility
Demonstrated supervisory experience with at least a team of two employees
Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite
Proven record keeping, budgeting and administrative skills including accurate data entry with strong attention to detail
Knowledge of basic principles and practices of budget preparation and financial management
Knowledge of emergency response protocols and safety procedures
Knowledge of principles of supervision and training to support effective team leadership
Excellent record-keeping and documentation skills to maintain organized and reliable information
Superior interpersonal skills to effectively engage with the public, external agencies, and colleagues in a dynamic environment
Ability to work independently, managing multiple priorities with minimal supervision
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally across diverse groups and situations
Excellent communication, written and oral skills
Demonstrated ability to advise and lead student groups or organizations
Demonstrated ability to work with college student constituencies and diverse populations effectively
Ability to design and organize student activities and/or cultural and recreational programs
Ability to maintain insurability under the college's vehicle liability insurance plan
Excellent time management skills to manage daily operations for the area while planning well in advance without supervision
The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Travel to all campuses and to state and regional meetings and conferences
Travel on all campus or college wide SA or SGA trips

Preferred

Master's degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related field preferred
