The Senior Systems Engineer, M365 will be responsible for building, scaling, and maintaining IT infrastructure, particularly in the Microsoft 365 environment, ensuring compliance with government security standards.

Responsibilities

Administer and configure M365 services (e.g., Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive) in a GCCH environment
Integrate M365 solutions with on-premises systems and other cloud platforms, ensuring seamless functionality and data security
Automate routine M365 administrative tasks using PowerShell scripting and other tools
Customize and optimize enterprise applications such as Atlassian stack to meet organizational needs, including creating workflows, dashboards, and reports in Jira and Confluence
Support mission launches and re-entries
Rotate through the team’s on-call schedule to keep critical systems healthy and responsive
Occasionally travel to customer sites and other Varda locations to troubleshoot, deploy, or test critical infrastructure

Required

8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or systems engineering, with increasing levels of responsibility
5+ years of experience with M365 Cloud environment required
3+ years of experience with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Power Platform
2+ years of experience with Graph API, Terraform
Experience with Intune (endpoint management, compliance policies, app deployment)
Experience administrating system in Windows and Linux
Scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, or similar) for automation and reporting
Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
Understanding of ITIL best practices
Must be physically able to regularly lift 25 lbs. for duties such as delivering computers, unpacking and rack-mounting equipment, etc

Preferred

Experience in GCC-High, Azure Government, or equivalent
Proven experience implementing and enforcing security and compliance controls aligned with CMMC, NIST 800-171, and FedRAMP requirements
Strong expertise in patch and configuration management across endpoints and servers in a regulated environment
Experience with Ansible and/or Salt
Microsoft, CompTIA, or Cisco certifications (e.g., Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert, MS-500, Security+, CCNP)
