Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice, Internal Medicine-Pulmonary Critical Care

The role emphasizes high-quality inpatient and outpatient care, teaching, and engagement in the academic mission of the department.

Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient pulmonary and critical care, including management of chronic lung diseases, acute respiratory failure, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and ICU patients
Provide inpatient ICU and pulmonary consult services, including co-management of critically ill patients, ventilator management, and collaboration with ICU consultants
Provide inpatient ICU and pulmonary consult services to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice located in Hospital Galveston
Participate in procedures such as intubation, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, central lines, and other bedside interventions, as appropriate to training and experience
Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and procedural pulmonary and critical care settings
Participate in departmental and divisional M&M, quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including respiratory therapy, nursing, radiology, and surgery—for optimal patient outcomes
Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and pulmonary/critical care-focused academic programs
Qualification
Required
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas
Preferred
Experience in an academic medical center or teaching environment
Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, clinical research, quality improvement projects, or curriculum development in pulmonary or critical care medicine
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach
