Mechanical Systems Designer

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is a world leader in remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars. They are seeking a Mechanical Systems Designer to participate in the development of landing gear systems, utilizing 3-D CAD modeling and drafting to create engineering drawings and design solutions.

Responsibilities

Using guidance from engineers, conceptualize and communicate with CAD models design solutions that meet program requirements
Make evaluations and calculations such as tolerance stack up, part-to-part interface compatibility, and producibility
Create engineering drawing types including but not limited to test, detail parts, assembly and installation, suitable for use in fabrication and assembly of aircraft components
Create engineering change requests and change notices to facilitate quick and efficient revisions to engineering drawings, including participation in the drawing release process
May be assigned design oversight of a sizeable portion of a project or program
Validates conformity to design standards and specifications and identifies design errors and other deficiencies and recommends changes
Remains current in CAD techniques and any applicable state of the art engineering design software applications
Coordinates and directs the activities of less experienced designers and support staff
Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company
Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices

Required

Typically requires an Associates degree or a certificate from a recognized organization indicating completion of training in ProEngineer, CATIA or IDEAS design software plus thirteen or more years of progressive experience utilizing CAD software with at least five of those years spent utilizing ProEngineer, CATIA, IDEAS or related engineering design software. Additional education may be substituted in lieu of work experience
Must have a complete and thorough understanding of engineering design concepts and principles and possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly, applying them accurately throughout an evolving environment
Must be able to organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases
Must also be able to determine the appropriate approach at the task level or at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex and diverse problems
Must have strong communication, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and excellent computer skills
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and be able to work extended hours as required
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security clearance is required
