Assistant Research Scientist-Oyster Larval Transport
The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist for a project focused on Oyster Larval Transport and Hydrodynamic Modeling for the Herring Bay Sanctuary in Maryland. The role involves building and applying simulation models to inform oyster restoration plans and requires expertise in hydrodynamic and particle transport modeling.

Responsibilities
Running and validating a ROMS hydrodynamic model
Implementing an LTRANS oyster larval transport model for Herring Bay
Analyzing LTRANS output to provide metrics for spatial planning of restoration sites in Herring Bay Sanctuary
Running and graphing output from an oyster metapopulation model
Interacting with scientific collaborators, restoration managers, and scientists
Communicating clearly in nontechnical settings
Qualification
Required
A Ph.D is required at the beginning of the period of employment
Expertise in hydrodynamic and particle transport modeling
Proficiency with R, Matlab, and Fortran
Experience working with scientists and managers in group settings
Familiarity with oyster biology
Ability to communicate with nontechnical audiences
Preferred
Previous work with ROMS, LTRANS, and oyster larvae particle tracking models would be highly beneficial
