Special Education Facilitator
Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit is seeking a Special Education Facilitator responsible for facilitating and coordinating special education programs and services. The role involves collaborating with teachers, parents, and external personnel to ensure effective programming and support for students with disabilities.
Education Management
Responsibilities
Assists teachers in preparing and maintaining ongoing instructional programs, including appropriate supportive services
Assesses curriculum effectiveness and implements change when necessary
Provides input on staff performance and provides staff development through effective collaboration and observations
Consults with school district and/or early intervention personnel regarding special education programming
Establishes working relationships with parents, school district and/or early intervention personnel, agencies, and the community
Maintains appropriate records for assigned programs and services
Coordinates the organization, scheduling, and staff professional development of all state assessments
Coordinates the design and implementation of the Frameworks for identified disability specific programs
Supports teachers in the assessment of student’s strength/needs and the development of IEPs aligned to these strengths/needs
Consults with teachers on student’s needs and recommends appropriate assessments and instructional and behavioral interventions, curriculums, resources, and programs
Coordinates the mapping of curriculum across disability specific programs, and coordinates the inventory, tracking, and purchasing of curriculum materials
Participates in the planning and development of special programs and projects
Assists in the recruitment, screening, and recommendation of staff for employment
Coordinates the appropriate steps in the referral-placement process
Participates in orientation for new staff
Participates in the development of a comprehensive inservice plan for special education
Maintains professional knowledge through review of professional literature, attendance at workshops, field visitations, research, and formal study

Qualification
Required
PDE Certification in Special Education
Master's Degree in Education
Minimum 5 years experience as a Special Education Teacher
Must enroll or be enrolled in an approved graduate program to obtain Supervisor of Special Education certification
Demonstrates an understanding of federal and state Special Education Regulations and Standards
Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with external and internal stakeholders
Demonstrates the ability to maintain complete confidentiality
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated by patience, understanding, and congeniality
Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrates the ability to organize, plan, and manage job responsibilities in order to complete assignments with minimal supervision
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize assigned tasks
Completes task with attention to detail and accuracy
Demonstrates the ability to work independently and maintain departmental deadlines
Demonstrates the ability to make professional decisions
Demonstrates the ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
Possesses the skills to provide the highest level of customer service with patience and knowledge of the department's services
Ability to attend work regularly at assigned work hours subject to lawful leave rights and responsibilities
Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, and communicate (vision, hearing, and speech) to effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities
Ability to independently ambulate in and around work areas
Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support
Ability to exhibit appropriate manual dexterity to effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities
Ability to conduct a safety restraint protocol which requires a normal degree of flexibility; the ability to stand, walk, run, and shuffle for at least several minutes; the ability to kneel on one and two knees and then stand up; the ability to bend the trunk at 45 degrees and twist to either side; the ability to grasp firmly and raise hands above the head; and the ability to learn and correctly demonstrate multi-step physical skills
