HVACR Technician I/II-2nd shift
Auburn University is seeking a motivated and skilled HVACR Technician to join their Preventive Maintenance team. The role involves maintaining the comfort and operational integrity of the campus HVACR systems while ensuring optimal functionality to support students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities
Performs routine repairs and preventive maintenance to a variety of building heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) equipment including air handling units, chillers, heat pumps, exhaust fans, fan coil units, variable air volume boxes, motors, pumps, air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital controls, hot and chilled water distribution and variable volume systems
Performs basic repairs of HVACR systems and equipment including air handling units, chillers, heat pumps, exhaust fans, fan coils units, variable air volume boxes, motors, pumps, air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital controls, hot and chilled water distribution and variable volume systems
Assists in major component replacement and systems repairs under the supervision of higher level technicians
Assists in executing HVACR system repair projects, such as the replacement of air handling units, chillers, or boilers as well as emergency repair efforts to repair such units
May be required to serve in an on-call status and remain work-ready when scheduled for an on-call period or rotation
Performs installation, replacement, or repairs to a variety of building heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) equipment including: refrigeration, air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, hermetic compressors, light commercial furnaces, boilers, burners, intake and exhaust fans, economizers, humidifiers, capacity controls, semi-hermetic compressors, split systems, flame safeguard controls, air compressors, air driers, and packaged units
Assists in planning, scheduling, and executing major HVACR system repair projects, such as the replacement of air handling units, chillers, or boilers and to lead emergency repair efforts to repair such units
Inspects and troubleshoots HVACR systems and their components (e.g. air handling units, chillers, heat exchanges, heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation equipment, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating operating status and material condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending a proper course of action
Oversees and plans assigned work orders using Facilities Management AIM work order system to prioritize and schedule work to best meet the need of Auburn University and its customers
Identifies options, develops solutions, and takes action when responding to customer requests
May be required to serve in an on-call status and remain work-ready when scheduled for an on-call period or rotation
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience as an HVACR technician
Some college; vocational or Associate's degree in Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Systems, Refrigeration, Building Control Systems or related field plus 5 years of experience as an HVACR technician
Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration theories, principles, and systems operations
Knowledge of understanding of all major HVACR system components; what they do, how they work, and how to install or replace them
Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices for HVACR systems
Basic knowledge of electrical systems, single phase and three phase electrical systems including wire sizing
Basic knowledge of generator operation and repair, workplace safety, and safe work procedures
An understanding of industrial safety procedures and practices pertaining to working around operation equipment
Ability to perform preventative maintenance on HVACR equipment, such as changing filters and belts, cleaning units, working on thermostats, valves, ductwork, gauges, diffusers, etc
Ability to troubleshoot and repair HVACR systems including proper recovery/reclaiming or refrigerant, finding and correcting superheat or sub cooling, sweat cooper, soldering/brazing, insulating refrigerant lines, performing leak test, flush lines
Ability to assist in the installation, repair, and/or replacement of common HVACR system components such as AHUs, VAVs, DX Units, Hydronic systems, chillers, boilers, variable frequency drives, and heat exchangers
Ability to wire circuits/components
Ability to read blueprints and electrical and mechanical system drawings
Journeyman level knowledge regarding the installation, maintenance, repair and proper operation of a wide array of complex HVACR systems
Journeyman level knowledge regarding a wide array of complex HVACR systems components such as AHUs, VAVs, DX Units, Hydronic systems, chillers, boilers, variable frequency drives, and heat exchangers
Journeyman level knowledge regarding troubleshooting, assessment, and diagnostic techniques for complex HVAC and refrigeration system problems
Journeyman level knowledge regarding project management and the planning, directing, scheduling, and managing of HVACR system repair projects; HVACR control systems and the ability to install repair, and replace control components; digital controls and the ability to install, repair, and replace digital control components; pneumatic controls and the ability to install, repair, and replace pneumatic control components
Journeyman level knowledge in the use of air and water flow measurement equipment and the ability to accurately use such equipment; building air and water 'test and balance' procedures and practices and the ability to test and balance a building system
Basic knowledge of fire alarm systems and how they interact with HVACR system operation and controls
Supervisory skills, along with the ability to communicate tasks and direction to subordinates in a clear and concise manner
Ability to install, repair, and/or replace a wide array of HVACR system components such as AHUs, VAVs, DX Units, Hydronic systems, chillers, boilers, variable frequency drives, and heat exchangers
Ability to troubleshoot, assess, and diagnose routine HVAC and refrigeration systems problems
Ability to assist in planning and executing HVACR system repair projects
Ability to install, repair, and replace HVACR control components, digital control components, pneumatic control components
Ability to accurately use of air and water flow measurement equipment
Ability to test and balance a building system
Ability to use building automatic systems (such as Johnson Controls Metasys system) to find and trouble shoot issues
Valid Driver's License
Universal Refrigerant Card or must obtain within the first 90 days of employment
Valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain prior to selection

North American Technician Excellence (NATE) HVAC Support Technician Certification or approved equivalent per Auburn University Facilities Management Policy: 'Training, Education & Certification Requirements for Mechanical and Electrical Trades Personnel'
