Sr. Energy Strategy Manager, AWS Energy Team

Amazon is seeking a self-starter to join the AWS Energy team in pioneering the future for data center utility power by developing and executing the strategy by which AWS delivers energy projects and partners with electric utilities and energy companies across the Americas. The role involves managing large scale and technically complex power infrastructure projects while collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure energy requirements are met for AWS’s global infrastructure expansion.

Responsibilities

Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive utilities strategy for AWS data centers for AMER regions
Manage multiple Utilities, EPC and Owner's Engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure, including negotiations and contracting
Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high voltage substations, energy storage, etc) to reduce long term energy costs
Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects
Work collaboratively with Amazon CFE/RE team to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities
Execute electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid (through utilities), reduce cost, minimize risk and leverage opportunities that benefit Amazon
Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects
Collaborate with internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy projects to meet the business timelines
Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects (capital and operational) and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply
Responsible for completing due diligence on in-market opportunities and developing those opportunities into cost savings for the business
Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives

Required

Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required in Engineering/Business or other technical field
7+ years working in utility/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role
3+ years of power transaction or contracting experience in US (e.g. PJM & MISO) energy markets, performing financial models and analysis on rates and energy cost, negotiation interconnection agreements and related contracts with utilities and contractors
2+ years managing multiple million dollar power infrastructure contracts with external stakeholders to drive projects to completion

Preferred

Master's Degree (MBA) preferred
The ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem solving skills
Experience planning, engineering, developing or constructing substations or other 34.5kV or greater energy infrastructure
Experience evaluating and implementing innovative infrastructure and operational strategies within the energy sector, such as energy storage, demand response, fuel cells, etc
Experience working directly with public utility commissions and other energy regulators
Experience with IT infrastructure, data centers and cloud services
