Planning Technician

The City of Lafayette is seeking an entry-level Planning Technician to join their Planning Department and contribute to shaping the city's future. The role involves providing customer service, reviewing development applications, and preparing reports on planning matters.

Responsibilities

Assist the public at the front counter
Review applications for completeness and compliance with appropriate regulations and policies
Participate in analyzing and researching land use data and trends
Prepare written reports on planning matters
Process permit applications and assist in plan checking of permit requests
Confer with applicants to clarify information relative to zoning, general plan compliance, signage and other issues

Required

At least one year of relevant professional history in planning, zoning and related community development activities
An Associate's degree with coursework in urban planning, economics, business or public administration, or a related field
Must be available for some evening hours to attend City Council and Commission meetings
Exceptional analytical skills
Detail-oriented
Strong writing and public speaking skills
Self-motivated, creative, and tactful
Excellent communicator

Benefits

Retirement Security – Up to 15% City-paid contributions to a 401-A plan, including a 5% match for a total potential contribution amount of 20%. Ability to also enroll into additional voluntary 457 plan. We do not participate in CalPERS retirement.
