INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN II (ENTERPRISE GIS DIVISION)
NEOGOV is part of the City of Detroit's Department of Innovation and Technology, focusing on leveraging geospatial technology for effective city operations. Responsibilities
Assists with oversight of the daily performance of computer systems
Operates a variety of standard office equipment such as a PC, printer, telephone, facsimile machine (fax), and copier to monitor systems and prepare documentation
Performs other computer system support such as data entry and verification, assembly and preparation of computer programs for processing, and the review of output for accuracy and completeness
Enters commands and observes system functioning to verify correct operations and detect errors
Understands and utilizes cloud computing and storage solutions to provide users and with various capabilities to store and process their data in third-party data centers
Reviews property ownership data, including deeds, tax rolls, etc
Provides assistance in reviewing property sales utilizing the Detroit Property Inventory (DPI) System, which interfaces with the Equalizer System
Sets up equipment for employee use, performs or ensures proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software
Installs and performs repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications
Maintains records of daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial actions taken, or installation activities
Performs backup/recovery procedures on a daily basis
Orders and inventories spare parts, including stripping surplus equipment for usable parts
Confers with management and users, including Public Safety personnel, to assist in identifying trends and performing root cause analysis for systems problems
Performs communications server administration such as establishing user and voicemail accounts, setting passwords, backups, and assigning access levels
Trains users to use new or modified equipment
Performs ongoing hardware and software maintenance operations, including installing or upgrading hardware or software
May be required to perform duties or provide support beyond normal work days for projects and supported system maintenance requirements
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School graduation or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
At least one (1) year of experience as an Information Technology Technician II
Proficiency with integrated word processing and spreadsheet functions
Ability to assist with oversight of the daily performance of computer systems
Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment such as a PC, printer, telephone, facsimile machine (fax), and copier
Ability to perform data entry and verification, assembly and preparation of computer programs for processing, and the review of output for accuracy and completeness
Ability to enter commands and observe system functioning to verify correct operations and detect errors
Understanding and utilization of cloud computing and storage solutions
Ability to review property ownership data, including deeds, tax rolls, etc
Ability to set up equipment for employee use, perform or ensure proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software

Some positions may require certification in specific hardware, software, or other technology related matters
Applicants may be subject to background, criminal, and credit checks
Individuals appointed to a position in this class will be required to serve a probationary period of six months with the possibility of a six-month extension
Preferred
High school coursework includes some basic information technology related classes
An Associate's Degree or technical training in computer science, information systems, programming, systems analysis, or a related field
Familiarity with the Detroit landscape
Valid State of Michigan Driver's License
Automotive electrical experience
IT service desk experience
Active Directory experience
