Baker Smith is seeking an entry-level Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Field Technician looking for an opportunity to work on a team in the field using the latest utility designating, locating and vacuum excavation equipment and technology. The role involves operating geophysical prospecting equipment, maintaining traffic signage, communicating with project teams, and ensuring safety on site.

Responsibilities
Responsible for communicating with the Project Manager, project team, and client field representative
Selects and applies appropriate geophysical prospecting equipment to accurately designate underground utility layouts
Operate and drive a vacuum excavation truck and perform test holes to expose utilities
Complete documentation, which includes record keepings and simple mathematics legibly and accurately
Selects and implements proper maintenance of traffic signage
Communicate and coordinate with utility company representative
Represent and communicate on behalf of T. Baker Smith and crew when encountering third parties in the field
Complete daily job safety analysis forms
Inspect assigned equipment to ensure proper working conditions prior to use
Identify and report any equipment failure on work order maintenance form
Perform work in a safe and efficient manner
Report incidents to the appropriate personnel and complete incident report as required
Monitor work conditions and responsibly use stop work authority
Qualification
Required
Ability to perform physical movements and tractions, commensurate with operating heavy tools and equipment
Possess basic computer skills and able to learn and understand new software
Ability to operate surveying instruments, boats, airboats, GPS, all-terrain vehicles, and other equipment necessary to obtain survey data
Attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent interpersonal communication skills
