Automotive Diesel Mechanic

Responsibilities

Maintains, services, inspects and repairs combustion-powered automotive vehicles, over-the-road trucks, and comparable vehicles such as light combat vehicles, and trucks as well as other motor transport equipment
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Performs operator, intermediate and limited major rebuild levels of maintenance which includes spot painting
Performs other tasks as assigned

Required

High school graduate or equivalent
Four years directly related work experience
Completion of the basic automotive mechanics course, or equivalent
Completion of the automotive organizational maintenance course, or equivalent
Completion of the automotive intermediate maintenance course, or equivalent
Maintains MVAC 609 Technician Certification
Completion of the advanced motor transport maintenance courses
Working knowledge of how heavy duty machinery, engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions and other parts and systems work
Ability to detect faulty items, determine cause of malfunction, and determine best repair methods
Ability to assemble, disassemble, repair, or modify components and systems
Ability to read and interpret parts lists, manufacturers' and Government repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics
Thorough understanding of the principles of operation and required repairs of all components and sub-components including but not limited to the Suspension, Engine, Transmission, Transfers, Differentials, wreckers, winches and sub-components
Ability to utilize Technical Manuals, Lubrication Orders/Instructions, and Modification Instructions to repair all rolling stock assets
Possess a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License and able to obtain and maintain a Tactical Operator License as necessary
Ability to comply with all established methods, safety standards, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position
U.S. Citizen
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and Base Access

Preferred

Certificate from a vocational school or other recognized source with a major study in electrical or automotive repair is preferred
In lieu of formal course work, a combination of college credits, on-the-job training, other formalized training, or experience may be considered
