Physicians act as leaders when taking on a research study
The type of work performed by the PI is similar to the procedures performed at a physician’s practice or clinic
It entails collaborating with study sponsors (pharmaceutical companies and CROs), regulatory agencies, and the site’s research team to facilitate study protocols
Research subjects are scheduled for appointments and receive assessments just like at a physician’s regular practice

Qualification
Required
Medical Degree (MD or DO) with valid license and board certification
Previous research experience required as a PI or Sub-I
