Sr. DDC Controls Technician
Princeton University is seeking a Senior DDC Controls Technician to install, service, and maintain various campus HVAC and building control systems. The role involves troubleshooting, programming, and ensuring energy conservation while providing technical support and guidance to other personnel.

Responsibilities
DDC Systems Installation and Troubleshooting: Maintains, adjusts, troubleshoots, and installs direct digital controls on new and existing campus DDC, building automation and energy management systems. Installation may include but not limited to installation of electrical conduit, low voltage wiring and terminal control panels. Performs point-to-point system maintenance check outs and participates in new and renovated system startups. Ensures proper software setup, programming, and communication with server(s). Maintains technical proficiency in building system applications through regular educational activities such as seminars, training classes, conferences, and self-education
HVAC Controls Maintenance and Repair Operations: Serve as the principal responder for campus heating and cooling issues, providing technical resolution to DDC, building automation and related issues, and coordinating the mechanical repairs (control valves) utilizing pipefitting installation techniques. Reads, understands, and interprets technical and construction related documents (drawings, technical manuals and specifications) to determine appropriate equipment and materials required and proper methods of repair or installation. Provides technical support, direction, and guidance to end users and other trades personnel where applicable
Calibration, Programming and Development: Perform calibration of critical devices that serve as control points for campus HVAC systems. Critical devices include but are not limited to relative humidity sensors, carbon dioxide sensors, system flow stations, and temperature sensors
General Facilities Department Employee Duties: Ensures proper care in the safe use and maintenance of university vehicles, tools and equipment. Responds to campus emergencies, both during the day and after hours, as needed. Uses campus software tools and other documentation methods to effectively develop, organize and maintain necessary work-related technical documentation. Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Must be a graduate of a recognized 4 year electrical/electronics vocational technical program or possess the equivalent in educational and practical experience
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalency (GED)
Possess journey level experience in maintaining, adjusting, calibrating operating, repairing, troubleshooting, and installing Siemens, Automated Logic Controls, Distech and pneumatic and direct digital controls on HVAC related systems
Possess journey level experience in the use of computers and associated software to maintain, adjust, operate, repair, troubleshoot, and install direct digital controls on the Campus Wide Automated Logic and Siemens (Desigo) building automation systems
Possess understanding and technical ability of DDC control theory and building operations, to perform investigations of complex HVAC system controls and functionality issues, evaluate alternate solutions and provide sound recommendations to supervisors, shop personnel and others
Possess journey level knowledge of the potential occupational hazards connected with electrical and building system controls work along with the associated safety standards and practices which should be applied
Demonstrated ability conduct detailed field inspections of new construction, renovations or standalone projects, and provide recommendations to supervisors, tech reps and others, in order to optimize shop level support for the campus capital and major maintenance programs
Possess knowledge in the functionality and usage of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and motor frequency drives (VFDs)
Ability to read and interpret both electric and mechanical (including automatic temperature control) drawings and technical manuals for all systems and equipment serviced
Possess a willingness to initiate productive work activity, work independently from both written and verbal work orders and accept responsibility for these work assignments
Available for emergency after hours work
Must have a valid driver's license to driver a University vehicle
Preferred
Advanced level ability to program either DDC or PLC processors
