Refugee Resettlement Case Management - Intern

Jewish Family Service of Colorado is a nonprofit human services organization that serves anyone in need. The Case Management Intern will assist case managers in supporting clients transitioning to life in the United States by engaging in administrative tasks and hands-on client engagement.

Responsibilities

Helping clients reach self-sufficiency as they begin life in America
Map community assets and help make referrals to community partners
Assist in scheduling appointments for clients and transport them to appointments
Visiting clients in their homes and accompanying them to appointments
Educate clients on U.S. healthcare and social service systems, cultural understanding, and getting to know their neighborhood
Assist clients in applying for social service assistance programs
Input client information into JFS’s database
Communicate client concerns with staff and coordinate service plan with supervisor
Other duties as assigned
Submit hours on the volunteer portal, VicNet
Report any concerns to the client’s case manager
Have a positive and significant impact on the lives of refugees in the greater metro Denver community
Assist in providing a safe, warm, and welcoming environment to new refugee families

Required

Excellent communication and writing skills
Organized with attention to detail
Able to work independently and under pressure
An interest in international and refugee issues
Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects
Strong desire to help people and enthusiasm for working in a multicultural setting
Computer literacy – preferably with PC systems
A driver's license, vehicle, and auto insurance
Background check (renewed every 3 years) and signed confidentiality and policy agreements
To qualify for an internship the applicant must be enrolled in or recently graduated from an academic program
All Interns must interview with all individual(s) who will provide assignment of internship tasks and internship supervision
Interns must pass all background checks that would be required of an employee performing the same or similar tasks or working with the same population
Intern must attend the resettlement info session and additional specialized training
