Clinical Pharmacist III - Critical Care Specialty/PGY-1 Residency Director
Riverside University Health System – Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist III – Critical Care Specialist, who will also serve as the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Director. This role involves providing specialized pharmaceutical care, overseeing junior staff, and managing complex assignments while ensuring optimal patient care and contributing to pharmacy services advancement.

Responsibilities
Provide answers to both distributive and clinical questions; consistently monitor the work of lower level staff to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures; resolve problems and issues arising from pharmacy operations and ensure the smooth workflow of services
Work with nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care; work with other members of the medical center to ensure a cooperative work environment; participate in regional or national organizations in pharmacy services; provide information and interdepartmental educational support to all level of healthcare providers (via grand rounds, continuing education lectures, etc.)
Assist in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures and provide input to supervisors and management; lead projects pertaining to the pharmacy area
Assist with training of new and existing personnel on departmental procedures and participate in maintaining quality assurance records
Participate and maintain quality assurance records; participate in continuous quality improvement activities
Serve as patient advocate in matters related to pharmacotherapy; develop staff education materials for medical center staff
Assist with maintaining performance improvement processes in order to improve the medication use process; serve in health system committees and cost savings/quality improvement projects
Provide specialized pharmaceutical care to patients with an emphasis on clinical monitoring and therapeutic interventions to improve patient outcome; assist and provide training to residents and pharmacy students
Contribute to the advancement of RUHS pharmacy services; participate in scholarly research activities and system-wide projects that demonstrate improved patient outcomes
Participate in ongoing medication use evaluation programs by assisting in the establishment of criteria for cost effectiveness/control utilization, process indicators and monitoring parameters; conduct evaluations to determine compliance to the established medication use evaluation criteria; summarize results
Contribute to the patient care team by providing medication use expertise to providers, nurses and others via multi-modal communication, including chart notes, SBAR, rounding, in person debriefs, and consultations
Qualification
Required
Graduation from a School of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm. D.)
Completion of accredited pharmacy residency, Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1)
Five years of post-residency within current area of specialty as a pharmacist in a hospital or ambulatory care setting (Option I)
Two years of specialty residency, Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) and Post Graduate Year-2 (PGY-2) and three years of post-residency within current area of specialty as a pharmacist in a hospital or ambulatory care setting (Option II)
Possession of a valid California Driver's License
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Licentiate in Pharmacy issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy and fulfillment of the continuing education requirements
Knowledge of drug distribution systems and provision of clinical pharmacy services
Knowledge of system development and implementation of drug distribution and/or clinical systems/services
Knowledge of quality assurance and continuous quality improvement
Knowledge of principles of effective supervision
Knowledge of good customer (physicians, nurses and patient) service
Knowledge of professional standards and practices
Knowledge of Federal, Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, and DHS laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to patient care and dispensing of legend and non-legend pharmaceuticals and poisons
Knowledge of principles of pharmacy practice, drug information, education, scholarship, and leadership
Ability to provide quality pharmaceutical care
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Ability to schedule, organize and manage routine and new responsibilities
American Heart Association BLS certificate (will be required within 30 days of hire)
Preferred
Prior experience as a Residency Program Director/Coordinator
Possession of a specialty board certification by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) in a specialty area of existing practice
Advanced Practice Pharmacist licensure issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy

MEDICAL/DENTAL/VISION INSURANCE: A choice of different medical, dental and visions plan are available to elect. The County provides a Flexible Benefit Credit contribution as governed by the applicable SEIU Memorandum of Understanding to contribute towards the cost of these plans.
MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT: County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual): 0 < 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days) 4 < 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days) 10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days) Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance).
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Employees contribute to State Disability Insurance (SDI), which provides wage replacement benefits for individuals who are unable to work due to non-work-related illness, injury, or pregnancy. SDI also includes Paid Family Leave Benefits. The wage replacement rate is determined by current law, offering 60-70% of the wages earned during the SDI eligibility period.
Additionally, employees receive employer-paid Long-Term Disability Benefits, which cover 66.67% of pre-disability earnings, up to a maximum of $10,000 per month. There is a 365-day waiting period before these benefits become active. Employees may coordinate these benefits with other available leave balances to receive up to 100% of their regular pay.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable SEIU Memorandum of Understanding.
