EMC Engineer - Aviation
Garmin International is seeking a full-time EMC Engineer - Aviation in their Olathe, KS location. The role involves leading certification tests and ensuring compliance with Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) requirements for complex avionics systems.

Responsibilities
Lead a small certification test or work as part of a team to develop/write test plans that will result in test data that will be used to show EMC compliance to respective requirements
Demonstrate solid understanding of the Garmin products/systems including I/O, system architecture and equipment functionality
Develop/write test reports that correctly/completely captures test results and includes information required to ensure the report demonstrates compliance with EMC requirements
Provide guidance to technicians as required and serve as a mentor to less experienced EMC Engineers (EMC Engineer 1)
Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion and participate in recruiting activities as required
Demonstrate an understanding of HIRF and Lightning requirements in performing set up and running HIRF and Lightning testing
Perform testing in accordance with DO160 and Garmin Procedures
Perform hardware and software change analysis under supervision of more experienced EMC Engineers
Develop FHA (Functional Hazard Assessments) and correlate failure modes from FHA's to individual equipment
Demonstrate familiarity with regulatory requirements for HIRF and Lightning and when to apply them, as well as advisory materials, SAE documents, the aircraft certification and TSO processes and requirements necessary to achieve STC and TC for OEM's
Demonstrate understanding of aircraft wiring types, shields, connectors, equipment bonding methods, and aircraft drawing systems in collaboration with avionics installation team
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Demonstrates basic knowledge and/or understanding of RF technology and electrical circuits
Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Word & Excel
Demonstrated skills and/or training in project management
Must be detail/team oriented, positive, have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision, able to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Knowledge and/or experience with DO 160 Sections 20 (Radio Frequency Susceptibility (Radiated and Conducted), Sections 22 (Lightning Induced Transient Susceptibility), and Sections 22 (Lightning Direct Affects)
Knowledge and/or experience of the following: EASA HIRF and lightning requirements, SAE ARP5412, 5413 and 5583
