Materials Handler (Fire)
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking temporary employees to work as Materials Handlers in Oregon. The role involves performing a variety of general manual duties and responsibilities in and around a warehouse, including loading and unloading equipment and supplies, stocking shelves, and maintaining inventory records.

Responsibilities
Loading and unloading of equipment and supplies
Stocking shelves
Stacking supplies
Rotating inventory
Marking inventory
Refurbishment of supplies
Inventory of supply items
Monitoring stock levels
Issuing supplies and equipment
Filling orders of equipment and supplies in accordance with standardized operating procedures
Maintaining and issuing fire supplies while documenting records
Delivering supplies and equipment to fire stations
Qualification
Required
You must be 18 years of age or older at the time of appointment
Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service or exempt
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check
Positions may require a valid state driver's license
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision
Experience in the operation (day to day activity) of a cache or warehouse in order to procure, issue, control, store and judge the physical condition of a wide variety of equipment and supplies
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social)
You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement
Physical Effort: Incumbent's work requires standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. During periods of high fire activity, incumbent may be required to work for periods of time up to 21 days without days off. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, equipment, and printed materials that may weigh 40 pounds. Work is generally performed on concrete or a hard surface floor
Working Conditions: Incumbent works in both inside and outside areas. Cache warehousing is done in areas that are hot, cold, dry, wet, drafty, and poorly lighted. The work is dirty, dusty, and greasy. He/she is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and the safety hazards inherent of warehousing
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions

Participation in the Federal Employees Health Benefit (FEHB) program - Employees electing to participate in the FEHB will be responsible for the employee share of the premium while on the official agency roles, which is deducted from bi-weekly earnings. After separating from federal employment, employees will be offered to continue participation in FEHB under the Temporary Continuation of Coverage (TCC) option. Employees electing to continue coverage under the TCC provision will be responsible for the full premium amount plus a 2% administration fee.
