Registered Dietitian (Veterans Health Education Coordinator)

The Eastern Colorado VA Health Care System is recruiting for a Veterans Health Education Coordinator (VHEC) Dietitian to manage the facility Veterans Health Education and Information (VHEI) program. The Dietitian assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates educational needs to facilitate learner development and skill training to help Veterans treat and prevent health conditions and optimize their Whole Health, well-being, and quality of life.

Responsibilities

Functions as the designated local point of contact, coordinator, advocate, and liaison for all Veterans and family health education programs, and activities; serves as the facility content expert in health education. Functions as a collaborator, advocate for Whole Health programs including self-management and Complimentary and Integrative Health (CIH) programs
Provides consultation and training to interdisciplinary staff members regarding health education theory and practice, evidence-based health education interventions and skills, and health education program development to assure that Veterans health education programs, activities, and services meet quality standards
Works with facility leadership to assure that the Veterans Health Education Program contributes to the facility's mission, goals, and objectives
Participates in the establishment and review of pertinent policies and procedures
Chairs the facility's interdisciplinary Veterans Health Education committee to assure interdisciplinary collaboration in the design and development of health education programs, activities, educational materials, and services for Veterans and family members
Assures that the Veterans Health Education Program has met all VHA Veterans Health Education Program requirements, and accreditation standards related to patient education
Serves as the principal point of contact for all Veterans Health Education communications and reporting between the facility, the VISN, VHEI/NCP, and other program offices
Develops effective working relationships with staff responsible for related programs and services
Provides regular reports to facility management on the status of Veterans Health Education programs, services and products
Prepares, secures and manages the needed budget and other resources to support Veterans Health Education programs, products and services
Provides consultation and technical assistance to other program areas to integrate Veterans health education across the continuum of care within the facility

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA)
In addition to meeting the basic requirements, to qualify for the GS-12 do you possess at least 1 year of experience as an RDN/RD equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) which demonstrates the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of program administration to establish program goals and objectives, coordinate activities, evaluate accomplishments and solve problems
Skill in developing quality improvement or research activities
Skill in developing training and reference materials
Ability to develop policies and procedures
Ability to provide program-specific coordination to include leadership, technical advice and staff development
