POSTAL OPERATIONS ASSISTANT (SEASONAL)

Responsibilities
Sell postage for various classes of mail and various mail services
Advise patrons on domestic and international mail regulations, procedures, services, and fees, assists preparing appropriate forms for mailing items subject to customs examinations
Inspect outgoing accountable mail for mailability and process for shipment in accordance with various Regulatory guidance’s
Qualification
Required
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation
Incumbent must be able to read, write, and speak the English Language fluently
Must complete the Postal Service Center (PSC) training module within six (6) months of employment
Annual leave will not normally be granted for the period of 1 November to 15 January except for emergencies
Required to work shifts, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed
Employee is held accountable for monetary imbalances when performing postal finance duties
Incumbent must be able to obtain/maintain a military motor vehicle operator's license
Must complete Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) handling and processing training prior to handling the mail
As a Seasonal Over Hire, a Local Records/Background check is the only requirement from the local authorities of the host nation or command
Incumbent is not authorized to receive or handle Registered Mail, materials or other items, which would require a security clearance
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social)
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience
Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; 1) Performing manual and/or automated processing of incoming and/or outgoing mail; 2) Operating a customer service window providing a variety of services that include financial transactions; 3) Completing administrative reports according to the guidelines established
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level position in the federal service (GS-05)
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications
