Section Chief, Gastroenterologist
The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a Section Chief for the Gastroenterology Section at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center. The successful candidate will ensure the quality and timeliness of gastroenterology services, oversee compliance with accrediting standards, and provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities
Ensure the quality and timeliness of the services provided, customer satisfaction, as well as compliance with the standards of accrediting bodies such as the Joint Commission and the Inspector General's Combined Assessment Program
Ensure appropriate use of the available resources and will be responsible for the state-of-the-art standards of care
Collaborate with other services as appropriate
Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings, including, but not limited to, specific GI clinics, GI procedures, and for inpatient medical, surgical, and critical care services
Provide feedback and patient education to the patients and their families and demonstrate excellence in all facets of patient care and meets or exceeds compliance standards
Evaluate, diagnose, consult, and order appropriate diagnostic studies and treatments for all GI patients assigned under their care
Provide consultative evaluations for other services, including general medical wards, surgical wards, and the emergency department, and perform administrative functions and other tasks as assigned by the Chief of the Medicine Service
Ensure operations and compliance with Veterans Health Administration guidelines for Gastroenterology Section of Medical Service
Manage the schedules of employees within the cardiology section; ensuring consistent, up to date, call schedule coverage and posting; the holding of at least monthly section meetings; allocation of resources to ensure adequate coverage/availability of clinical programs
Attend required staff meetings, communicate up and down the chain of command and help prepare heads-up and issue briefs related to adverse patient outcomes
Qualification
Required
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Proficiency in spoken and written English
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
You may be required to serve a probationary period

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
Preferred
The incumbent should be a board certified Gastroenterology physician with advanced clinical experience as well as demonstrated administrative and leadership skills
