Responsibilities

This position serves as the Facilities Administrator for a region within the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Under the supervision of the Deputy Regional Director, the Regional Facilities Administrator is responsible for directing the facilities programs for the regional office, and for providing guidance and direction related to facilities development and maintenance programs at institutions throughout their respective region
Provides authoritative counsel to the Regional Director, other federal prison system staff, other agencies and various professional colleagues regarding the design and construction requirements of federal correctional institutions
Participates along with other Regional and Central Office staff in various mission and policy planning and execution activities
Guides new construction, renovations, maintenance and energy conservation programs throughout the region
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis

U.S. Citizenship is Required
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration
Managing a maintenance program for office or apartment building complexes, hospitals, recreation facilities, military, or other special-purpose installations, including planning maintenance activities, and developing preventive maintenance programs
Conducting surveillance activities over construction and maintenance operations performed by a variety of private contractors, including reviewing project plans and specifications for workability, informing contractors of construction and reporting requirements, and supervising operations for conformance with project plans
Performing maintenance or construction work, including estimating material and labor costs for a variety of construction or maintenance projects (such as construction or maintenance of brick, frame, structural steel, reinforced concrete, and other type structures ranging from one- or two-story buildings to larger structures), directing actual work operations, and maintaining appropriate contacts with the organization funding the project
You must have at least one year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled
Experience in advanced concepts, principles, and practices of correctional institution design and construction to provide definitive interpretation and guidance to institution facilities departments as well as the regional office
Experience in illustrating and articulating concepts, details, and costs of ongoing correctional institution design and construction projects
Experience in possessing a comprehensive knowledge of the various manuals, codes, standards, laws, and other regulations that pertain to the construction and maintenance programs throughout the region in order to assure compliance with such requirements, and to instruct and advise others
Ability to communicate orally
Ability to communicate in writing
Ability to manage resources
Knowledge of construction standards, methods, and techniques
Knowledge of architectural design and related disciplines
