Responsibilities

Possess the knowledge and skills found at the journey level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing, and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program
Plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop, which is then completed by the incumbent and lower graded mechanic(s)
Estimate manpower, equipment and material requirements
Devise and maintain all program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance
Plan, organize and direct shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision
Determine approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner
Provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position descriptions changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc

Required

Must possess the experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work
Ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics
Skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing equipment
Must possess the experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories
Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems
Skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments
Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships
Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufacturers' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics
Must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone. No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this occupational series and grade
Must be a member of the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement prior to the effective date of placement
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform
Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation
May be required to successfully complete a trial period
This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968
Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
