Fire Engineering Equipment Operator

The Bureau of Land Management is looking for temporary employees to work as Engineering Equipment Operators in Idaho Falls, ID. This role involves operating heavy equipment for wildfire suppression and maintaining the equipment used in firefighting operations.

Responsibilities

Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as water tenders, dozers, lowboys, etc. on fire lines for the purpose of suppressing wildfires
Maintains and repairs heavy equipment used in firefighting operations
Operates the equipment in reclaiming burned areas when not assigned to fire suppression operations

Required

You must be 18 years of age or older at the time of appointment
You must have a valid state Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1)
Experience driving a diesel truck with lowboy transporting engineering equipment over the highway with some experience driving in offroad over flat or rolling terrain
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision
You must pass an initial pre-employment physical examination and must be able to pass the work capacity fitness test (Must carry a 45 lb. pack for 3 miles within 45 minutes)
Positions require a mandatory pre-employment drug test
All positions have medical qualification requirements

Participation in the Federal Employees Health Benefit (FEHB) program - Employees electing to participate in the FEHB will be responsible for the employee share of the premium while on the official agency roles, which is deducted from bi-weekly earnings. After separating from federal employment, employees will be offered to continue participation in FEHB under the Temporary Continuation of Coverage (TCC) option. Employees electing to continue coverage under the TCC provision will be responsible for the full premium amount plus a 2% administration fee.
