Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
The Bronx VA Medical Center is seeking a Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to lead the Specialty Care Department. The role involves overseeing the administrative management and clinical performance of Oral Surgeons, Residents, and Dental Assistants, ensuring productivity and quality of care in the Oral Surgery Section.

Responsibilities
Possessing leadership and communication skills to effectively collaborate with other departments and other disciplines, including collaboration with other Section Chiefs and Section Supervisors throughout the Dental Service Line
Being responsible for the supervision, administrative management, and direction of the Oral Surgeon Attendings, rotating Residents in Training, and Dental Assistants assigned to that specialty
Creating work assignments
Monitoring Oral Surgeon Attendings, rotating Residents in Training, and Dental Assistants assigned to that specialty's clinical performance
Conducting performance appraisals and other clinical and administrative responsibilities as assigned by the General Surgery Service Chief
Reporting to the General Surgery Chief and working closely with him/her to achieve duties as delegated
As an Infection Control Representative
Being assigned as Delegation of Authority to verify and approve Oral Surgery consults
Being responsible for Patient Advocate concerns
Overseeing Providers' clinic coverage at local service level
Ensuring productivity for Oral Surgery Section is maintained at the established level
Qualification
Required
A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients
Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Must be proficient in written and spoken English
Must pass pre-employment physical examination
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
Subject to background/security investigation
Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process
Must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment
