Seasonal Firefighter (Basic Life Support)

The National Park Service is recruiting for summer Seasonal Firefighter (Basic Life Support) positions at Yellowstone National Park and Zion National Park. These temporary positions are intended to assist permanent staff with structure fire and emergency medical services work, not to exceed 1039 hours per service year.

Responsibilities

Serves as fully trained member of a structure fire team that is responsible for execution of a program to ensure life safety of park personnel, concessionaire employees, a large ongoing population of public visitors, and physical protection of park facilities, structures, cultural and natural resources
Serve as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), with responsibility for driving and operating firefighting apparatus of significant complexity, responding to emergencies involving fire, emergency medical services, hazardous material and other protection of life and property in complex and hazardous firefighting situations

U.S. Citizenship required
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment
Prior to appointment, you must be determined physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties
You will also be required to undergo periodic medical examinations throughout employment
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards
You will be required to operate a government motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required
Must maintain a fitness level and meet the NFPA medical standard appropriate to the incident qualifications requirement for positions certified
Must be able to pass a respirator fit test
Must be 18 years of age at time of close date of announcement
SELECTIVE FACTORS: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, selectees must possess ALL of the following certifications administered by approved NFPA, IFSAC or Pro-Board certified programs: 1) Firefighter II; 2) Haz Mat Operations - Driver/Operator Pumper; 3) National Registry EMT-B or higher level of EMS certification qualifications and training requirements
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience
You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience
