Social Work Program Coordinator

Responsibilities

Administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to patients. Develops and implements information systems to track service activities including visits, referrals, inpatient days, patient demographics, equipment utilization and patient satisfaction. Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical guidelines and protocols to establish appropriate utilization of services
The incumbent directly supervises a group of employees performing work at various GS levels (e.g. social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialist, program support assistant, etc.) and provides administrative, technical and clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the program including outreach efforts and efforts at other sites within the Health Care System. Coordinates with supervisors of other disciplines such as nursing, chaplain, police, psychology to ensure treatment service effectiveness and safety within the program
Performs the administrative and personnel management function relative to staff supervised. Incumbent establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Observes workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Provides informal feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Incumbent is able to resolve informal complaints and grievances. Develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary. He/She provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests

Incumbent supervises employees to accomplish the work of the organization unit. Exercises supervisor authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised
The incumbent performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance to State, local, and private agencies, and universities. Technical assistance provided is based on monitoring activities and program reviews, and the development and analysis of information. In addition, the incumbent uses sound judgment in the interpretation of trends and patterns; the application of guidelines; and the recommendation of program enhancements. The incumbent performs program analysis, development, review, research, design, and contact work as possible with various agencies (public, DOD, state, etc.)
Performs work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment of the RRTP. Responsible for key project activities related to the planning, development, and implementation of the project component. A substantial portion of the workload directed by this position is carried out at a location that is physically removed from the main unit under conditions that make day-to-day supervision difficult to administer

Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level
Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f)
One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level
Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure
Skill in coordinating and implementing one or more specialty program(s), across the facility
Skill in local policy and practice development, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program as prescribed by the program handbook or national directive
Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s)
Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care
Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluations; and selection of staff, training, and recommendation of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary action
Ability to oversee the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (including fund controls, contracts, and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget
Knowledge of organizational structure and impact on program operations
