Responsibilities

Supervising shift operations and providing technical advice to subordinate staff on a wide range of operational and enforcement issues related to the arrival and departure of persons, merchandise, and conveyances at the port of entry
Finding ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work
Coaching and mentoring employees while planning and scheduling work on a daily basis
Planning and carrying out assignments, projects, studies, or investigations intended to explore and resolve operations and law enforcement problems, or to improve new procedures
Performing primary and secondary inspections while interpreting laws and regulations of a broad range of Federal, state, and local agencies, relating to the admissibility of people, cargo, and conveyances; international mail compliance; and arrival and departure of vessels and aircraft

Required

Must meet eligibility for reinstatement as defined by 5 CFR 315.401
Must have passed the CBPO Field Operations Academy and post-Academy prior to leaving CBP
Must have successfully completed the requirements of a probationary or trial period
Must have satisfactory or pass performance appraisals during the last three years of federal employment
Must have been separated at the applicant's choice with no disciplinary action taken within the last three years of CBP employment and with no disciplinary proceeding pending
Must have held a competitive permanent position with the Full Performance Level of GS-12
Retired applicants must have been retired one (1) year before the opening date of this announcement
You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position
Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service
Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
All pre-employment processes will be conducted in English
You may be required to pass a background investigation and/or polygraph
CBP follows the DHS Drug-Free Workplace Plan for drug testing procedures
You must possess the Ability to operate a Government Owned Vehicle. A valid, non-restricted driver's license is required
You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: conducting prearrival targeting and intelligence vetting and gathering and analyzing information from all available sources; performing primary inspections of cargo, conveyances, and travelers and secondary inspections of referrals from primary; developing, planning, and performing tactical operations in cargo and passenger environments; employing a variety of investigative techniques and preparing accurate reports regarding inspections, gathered intelligence, and incidents; interacting with internal and external contacts and mentoring lower level CBP officers and officers new to the port, environment, or work unit
