PSYCHIATRIST (COLUMBIA, MO)
Harry S. Truman Veterans Affairs Medical Center is seeking a dedicated psychiatrist to provide exceptional care to veterans in Columbia, Missouri. The psychiatrist will be responsible for adult and adolescent psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, and collaborative treatment planning as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Responsibilities
Responsible for primarily adult, and, as required or needed, adolescent psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, assessments, medication management, therapeutic intervention and treatment of patients of a quality expected from an expert, experienced psychiatrist
Perform and document a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that includes evaluation of mental status, current and past history of various behaviors, substance use, level of functioning, trauma, and social and developmental history
Perform and document a comprehensive physical assessment, with emphasis on the mental status and neurological exam
Develop a treatment plan for mental health problems and psychiatric disorders based on evidence-based standards of care, biopsychosocial theories, and current practice guidelines
Collaborate as a leader of the interdisciplinary mental health and other health care teams and provide mental health consultation to other team members, including the primary care team
Identify both typical and atypical presentations of psychiatric disorders; differentiate psychiatric presentations of medical conditions from psychiatric disorders, including substance related disorders, and arrange appropriate evaluation and follow-up of the former; diagnose psychiatric disorders and recommend treatment
Qualification
Required
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Proficiency in spoken and written English
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
Must be proficient in written and spoken English
Subject to background/security investigation
Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process
Must pass pre-employment physical examination
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
You may be required to serve a probationary period
