WELDING ENGINEER

Responsibilities
You will direct or conduct investigations to determine facts, causes, and corrective or preventive actions to significant issues
You will develop and implement Shipyard procedures and technical requirements to comply with welding, quality, material, overhaul and other technical standards that govern welding on ships
You will facilitate debriefings, develop preventive measures to minimize recurrence of problems in future work evolutions
You will review and prepare welding specifications in technical work documents and investigate problems
You will establish and evaluate viable course of actions and perform risk assessments with mitigating strategies with respect to safety and reliability of ship systems and structure, process or propulsion systems
You will administer a qualification program to mechanics and equipment in metal joining and fabrication
You will evaluate and improve fabrication methods or work processes that are associated with metal joining and allied processes using engineering designs, standards, codes, techniques, practices and technology

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination

Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements
This position may require work onboard ships

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional ENGINEER applying welding concepts, techniques, and practices to provide technical oversight on investigations, evaluations, or the development of technical procedures for non-nuclear or nuclear welding work to implement changes on work processes and ensure quality standards are met
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional ENGINEER applying welding techniques, procedures, and quality assurance standards to participate in investigations, evaluations, or development of technical procedures for non-nuclear or nuclear welding work to recommend solutions to improve work processes
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree
Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements
Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance
Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience
