Correctional Program Officer (Assistant Sector Administrator)
USAJOBS is seeking a Correctional Program Officer to assist in managing and overseeing operations of Residential Reentry Management and contract confinement/detention services. Responsibilities
Assists in the management and oversight of the operations of Residential Reentry Management and contract confinement/detention services in the assigned sector
Shares in the responsibility for the overall mission of residential reentry management in the sector. This requires effective leadership and management oversight of the sector’s Residential Reentry Managers in the development and administration of residential reentry centers, contract detention/confinement facilities, juvenile and adult boarding facilities, and non-residential home detention programs
Programs and services are provided through intergovernmental agreements at the federal, state, county and city levels and through contracts with nonpublic (private) agencies

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level
Specialized experience is directly related experience that included substantial involvement with a correctional program and provided a thorough knowledge of correctional techniques, or experience in meeting and dealing with people that demonstrated the ability to work effectively with inmates and associates in a correctional environment
Experience must have also demonstrated the ability to perform supervisory or administrative duties successfully
Understanding the problems of custody, treatment, training, and release of inmates of penal or correctional institutions
A thorough and comprehensive knowledge of an institution's internal policies, programs, regulations, and procedures
Training subordinates, coordinating and directing activities and functions, evaluating performance of operations and the effectiveness of programs, and maintaining high standards or work objectives
This experience must have been gained in an administrative position, or in other positions that included the successful direction, or assistance in the direction of, an entire correctional program or a major phase of such a program
Experience in preparing analytical reports assessing the impact and success of community-based correctional activities
Experience in providing technical assistance to managers at all levels in interpretation and coordination of community-based correctional activities
Experience in analyzing and interpreting raw data, flow charts, graphs and making comparisons between work districts, geographical areas and classifications of persons in order to make projections, identify needs, establish priorities and develop logical and viable divisions of labor and equitable work responsibilities for both personnel and district offices
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications

Initial appointment to a supervisory/managerial position requires a one-year probationary period
The incumbent is subject to geographic relocation to meet the needs of the agency
Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation
