The Department of Justice is seeking a Health Technician (Phlebotomist) to join their team in Victorville, CA. The role is responsible for the collection and processing of clinical laboratory specimens, including blood and other body fluids, while maintaining security within the institution.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the collection and processing of clinical laboratory specimens
Collect clinical laboratory specimens (human blood) for testing requested by a clinician. Collection of specimens will be accomplished via routine venipuncture and capillary procedures
Collect other body fluids and clinical specimens (i.e. stool, urine, sputum). Instructs patients on proper collection of specimens such as stool and urine for laboratory analysis
Responsible for specimen processing and transport. Processing will include, but not be limited to, specimen centrifugation, aliquoting, and mixing
Assists laboratory staff in a variety of laboratory related activities, including but not limited to, ordering entry into a computerized laboratory information system, preparing laboratory related paperwork, storing and inventorying laboratory supplies
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis

U.S. Citizenship is Required
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level
Experience in the collection of patient specimens via venipuncture and/or capillary techniques
Experience in instructing patients on proper collection of specimens such as stool and urine for laboratory analysis
Experience in specimen processing to include specimen centrifugations, aliquoting, and mixing
Experience in maintaining inventories of needles and syringes and laboratory supplies
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable
Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications
Failure to provide all of the required information as stated in this vacancy announcement may result in an ineligible rating or may affect the overall rating
Successful completion of the 'Introduction to Correctional Techniques,' three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia is required
Ability to communicate orally
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
Knowledge in specimen collection
Knowledge in specimen processing and storage
