Government Information Specialist

Responsibilities

Receive, analyze, and process complex and sensitive Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act (FOIA/PA) requests
Ensure compliance with FOIA/PA laws, regulations, and polices to adjudicate which information and documentation can be released
Determine whether responsive records are complete by researching and interpreting legal statutes, records policies, and internal procedures
Provide accurate and timely technical assistance for disclosure of FOIA/PA records using automated processing systems to redact records and prepare all necessary correspondence, notices, and other documentation

Required

Must be a current permanent Federal employee
Must have supervisory approval to apply to the Joint Duty Assignment. DHS 250-2 Application Form under 'required documents' section
Must NOT have any pending/outstanding disciplinary actions
Must have achieved a minimum of 'meet expectations/proficiency' on latest performance appraisal/evaluation
Must be currently at the grade level of the detail. *No Temporary Promotion Opportunity*
Receiving, processing, researching, and/or verifying FOIA/PA requests
Providing technical assistance to management, staff, and the public on using automated systems for the disclosure of records under the FOIA/PA laws
Demonstrating knowledge of records systems/records policy and procedure to determine that records produced by the agency are complete
Ensuring appropriate documentation, laws, and regulations are applied to FOIA/PA requests, appeals, and litigation
Ideal candidates will be detail oriented, self-motivated, and work independently
