Responsibilities

Assists automotive mechanics in performance of maintenance and repair on all combustion powered vehicles
Helps with repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, adjusting, or cleaning defective parts or components such as fouled spark plugs, worn brake shoes, water pumps, engine gasket belts and hoses, etc
Under direct supervision of the automotive mechanic or higher grade worker, removes and replaces with standard parts, items such as spark plugs, fan belts, starters, fuel pumps, mufflers, etc
Observes environmental, safety, and security rules and regulations
Cleans shop area, as required, or requests patrons to tidy up their own work areas
Must be physically able to frequently lift, handle, and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally, with assistance, objects weighing up to and over 50 pounds

This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results
This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations
This position requires the incumbent to possess or maintain a valid state Driver's License to operate vehicles
This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screen and random testing thereafter
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination
Ability to use standard and metric automotive hand powered tools required
Must have effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to operate a motor vehicle - Valid Driver's License is required
Must be able to frequently lift, handle and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally, with assistance, objects weighing up to and over 50 pounds
Must be able to frequently stand, bend, stoop, crawl, and work in tight spaces for long periods of time

Preferred

A basic knowledge of automotive repair such as could be gained at the high school or trade school level preferred
