Deputy Laboratory Director
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The Deputy Laboratory Director for Weapons provides strategic leadership and management of the nuclear weapons program, overseeing a large budget and a dedicated workforce to ensure the safety and reliability of the nation's nuclear deterrent.

Responsibilities
Programmatic responsibility and executive sponsor interface for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Defense Programs (NA-10) and specific Department of War (DoW) organizations as well as the US Air Force and US Navy
Working with the LANL executive management team to establish shared priorities and achieve Department of Energy (DOE) and NNSA goals including programmatic deliverables and safe, secure, & compliant operations
Lead stockpile assessments to support the Laboratory Director's annual letter
Interfacing and collaborating with governmental agencies, parent company partners, external stakeholders, and local communities to establish, enhance, and deserve trust
Qualification
Required
Experienced senior leader with characteristics including personal integrity and accountability, fiduciary responsibility, trustworthiness in relationships, commitment to quality and excellence in programs and operations; commitment to an engaged high performing workforce; human resource development; and effective oral and written communication skills
Record of institutional-level accomplishment demonstrated through performance metrics in a scientific or technical national security organization of relevance to nuclear weapons and with national scale impact
Knowledge of the nuclear weapons stockpile
Knowledge of science and engineering relevant to NNSA weapons programs including physics, engineering, computing, chemistry, or material science
Demonstrated experience fostering an organizational culture of shared accountability; improvement-driven teamwork; and learning/unlearning from error precursors, near misses, and events to enhance effectiveness and achieve efficiencies
Demonstrated experience in collaborating with high-level internal and external stakeholders, including the demonstrated ability to build trust, enhance organizational reputation, and achieve shared objectives
Experience working for or with the US government
Advanced relevant degree and a minimum of twenty years of related experience in the areas described in this job posting
Preferred
Experience leading operational activities for a nuclear facility
Demonstrated experience leading operational activities at a National Laboratory and/or strong working knowledge of the DOE and/or NNSA
Successful record of working with local and state government leaders in communicating complex institutional messages
Current DOE 'Q' Clearance
