Motor Vehicle Mechanic Helper
NEOGOV is seeking a Motor Vehicle Mechanic Helper to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the fleet for the Gadsden Independent School District. The role involves assisting mechanics with repairs, conducting safety checks, and ensuring the proper operation of vehicles.

Responsibilities
Washes, waxes, vacuums, steam cleans, wipes down, disinfects District fleet vehicles and utility vehicles
Organizes work by reviewing work orders on a daily basis; gathers supplies
Completes safety inspection checklists for fleet vehicles before and after use. Ensures road-worthiness of vehicles before issuance to district employees
Occasionally drives District vehicles to local dealerships (within 40 miles) for contracted repair service
Checks vehicles for damage to interior or exterior before and after trips, reports damage to Motor Vehicle Supervisor, applies corrective action when possible
Assists mechanics and Motor Vehicle Supervisor with corrective and preventative maintenance on all vehicles as required
Applies decals, letters or numbers to identify vehicles
Stores and retrieves vehicles by driving and parking vehicles
Secures vehicles by locking doors, windows, and trunks; observing and reporting suspicious persons and incidents
Maintains safe environment by watching out for pedestrian traffic; following standards and procedures; complying with traffic and driving regulations
Completes work orders with information to document repair history for vehicles
Corrects unsafe conditions in the work area immediately and reports conditions that are not correctable to supervisor
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading service publications
Assists with the inventory of auto shop stock, may scan items out of inventory or add them when purchased, will assist with annual inventory counts
Responds to emergency calls and works irregular hours as needed
Wears uniform and safety shoes provided by Gadsden ISD
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
Knowledge and observance of safety precautions
Operate a forklift and/or pallet jack
Must be able to perform basic data input on a computer
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
1-2 years' experience working in a motor vehicle repair shop or related operation
Valid Driver's License without restrictions
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers
Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
Valid Driver's License
Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear
The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms
The employee is occasionally required to sit
The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward
The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders
The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job
The employee must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds occasionally
Ability to properly use and care for job related tools and equipment
Frequent District wide travel and travel within 40 mile radius
Maintains emotional control under stress
Able to work in adverse weather conditions
Works outside and inside
Exposure to extreme temperatures, dusts, fumes and odors
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly works indoors and will work outdoors
The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment
The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, sprays
The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
