Structural Project Engineer

GPLA Structural Engineers and Builders is a leading firm in structural engineering, seeking a Structural Project Engineer to join their team. The role involves supporting the Project Manager in overseeing projects from design to construction completion, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring quality standards are met throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Assist in the management and production of drawings, specifications, and calculations during a project’s design phase life cycle from conceptual design to completion of construction documents under reduced supervision and coordination with the Project Manager
Assist in review of deliverables to ensure the scope and quality standards are met throughout project's life cycle
Assist in the management and completion of various construction administration tasks, such as, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, and making site visits, under reduced supervision and coordination with the Project Manager
Assist in the development of structural designs and analytical models for various building types and materials
Review and revise designs based on feedback from Senior Designers and Project Stakeholders
Perform calculations and analyses to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes and regulations. Basic knowledge of all relevant codes
Utilize CAD software, including Tekla Structures, and other tools to create 2D drawings and 3D models
Collaborate with and help manage team members, including engineers, modelers and detailers, to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality design solutions within budget
Collaborate with external stakeholders such as architects, contractors, and MEP designers
Participate in and help manage project design meetings to achieve project objectives. Some responsibilities may include setting agendas, taking notes, and providing meeting minutes
Stay updated with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in structural design techniques and technologies by actively participating in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in structural engineering and project management
Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement, and help implement initiatives to drive continuous improvement within the company

Assist Project Manager to monitor project costs, track expenses and manage the project budget
Assist Project Manager to identify and pursue change orders as appropriate due to the modifications to the project's scope, budget or schedule

Required

In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards
Familiarity with structural design and analysis, materials, and construction techniques for making informed decisions and ensuring compliance with regulations
The ability to identify and analyze problems, propose solutions, and make informed decisions which includes critical thinking skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the construction process
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and communication internally within the project team
Competent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and communication with external project stakeholders, including clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory bodies
The ability to convey complex technical information in a clear and concise manner and manage stakeholder expectations
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and assist in management of multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines and ensure timely project completion
A keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy and quality in creating and reviewing design plans, specifications, and construction documentation which also helps in identifying potential risks or discrepancies in the project
The ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders which includes active listening, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
The ability to adapt quickly, make informed decisions, and adjust project plans to face unexpected challenges and changes
Proficiency in relevant software and tools used in structural engineering and project management, such as computer-aided design (CAD) software
A commitment to stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes
A desire to gain proficiency in project management; including gaining experience in planning, organizing, and executing projects from start to finish
Development of the ability to create comprehensive project plans, allocate resources, manage budgets, and ensure timely completion
Basic knowledge of financial and budget management principles is beneficial; which includes the ability to track project costs, monitor budgets, and contribute to cost-effective decision-making
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Structural focus
Have Professional Engineer (PE) license. Setup and maintain an NCEES record for licensure
Six years of experience working in the building structural engineering field
Ability to sit or stand at a desk and work from a computer for prolonged periods of time
Ability to travel to perform site visits at various project locations around the country
Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds if needed

Preferred

Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred
